Where: Probably the Shetlands, since they were described as towards Germany
Name origin: Most likely from Greek ακμη ‘high point’.
Notes: Pomponius Mela wrote in about AD 43, before Roman exploration of Britain, so any knowledge of Shetland probably came from Pytheas..
