Attested:  AI Barsa (Maritime Itinerary)

Where:  A Channel Island, possibly Herm (see R&S p181)

Name origin:  PIE *bhars- ‘projection, bristle, point’ (the root of English barse, barley and bur, and of Irish barr ‘tip’) would suit an island.

Notes:  In personal names Bar- tended to be Semitic for ‘son’.
