Attested: Ptolemy 2,3,2 Νοουιου river mouth
Where: Νοουιου has long been identified with the River Nith, running through Dumfries into the Scottish side of the Solway Firth, but there are too many significant rivers in that area for that identification to be really secure.
Name Origin: See here about rivers called *Navis, *Novis, etc.
Notes: See also about the Νοουανται tribe and their peninsula and promontory, and the rivers Anava and Novitia.
