Volitanio

Attested:  RC Volitanio

Where:  Probably the fort at Mumrills NS91857943 on the Antonine Wall near Falkirk.

Name Origin:  Latin volito ‘to fly to and fro’ could fit a cavalry base.  Or else Volitanio could be compounded from vallum plus PIE *ten- ‘to stretch’ to mean something like ‘wall extension’.

Name Origin:  VAL in an inscription found here is usually interpreted as short for Valerius, but might refer to vallum.
