Attested:  Tacitus Agricola 38,2: In finis Borestorum exercitum deducit

Where:  The north of Scotland

Name Origin:  Latin boreas ‘the north’ from Greek Βορεας from PIE *gwerə- ‘mountain’.

Notes:  See here for a suggestion, attributed to Stan Wolfson, that Tacitus' text should be amended to Boreos totum, thereby implying casual use of a Greek loan-word, not the existence of a tribe of northerners.  Notice the similarity to the curious name Poreoclassis.
