Attested: Dorvantium at position 250 in the Ravenna Cosmography, where it is touring harbour estuaries.
Where: Probably the Cumbria river Derwent because Dorvantium came after Coantia (in Morecambe Bay ) and before Anava (probably the Annan). Magis fort may have been at its mouth.
Name origin: See under Derventione about possible etymologies of rivers with names like Derwent. This seems more likely than an origin from *duro- ‘crossing’ plus *anti- ‘opposite river’.
