Λινδον

Attested:  Ptolemy 2,3,9 Λινδον, a πολις of the Δαμνονιοι

WhereMalling Roman fort, at NN564001, next to Lake Menteith, in Perthshire.  It blocks the travel route from Glasgow towards the Highlands past the western end of the boggy area around the upper river Forth, (Flanders Moss and the Carse of Forth).

Name Origin:  Λινδον ‘lake’ is discussed with reference to Lincoln.  A better translation might be ‘flowing’.

Notes:  Notice how the geographical situation of this site essentially parallels those of Lincoln, Ilchester, and Cambridge, at the head of a boggy river.
