Attested: Armis at position 42 in the Ravenna Cosmography
Where: Probably at the junction of Margary's Roman roads 420 and 421, at about SU567116, on the outskirts of Wickham, Hampshire, near the river Meon.
Name Origin: Graeco-Latin αρμος/armus ‘joint’ or αρμη ‘junction’ fits the Y junction of Roman roads.
Notes: The Cosmography lists Armis between Venta velgarom (Twyford, near Winchester) and Ardaoneon (probably Havant). There is some archaeological evidence for a Roman-era settlement at Wickham.
